I’m writing this just as I am just returning to London after 6 months of traveling the Grateful Dead Madison Square garden shirt What’s more,I will buy this world and working remotely. I can’t say I’m excited to be back, but I am looking forward to having my own place and seeing close friends and family again. I am both dreading and relieved to return to my normal ‘city life’ routine. It’s a mix of feelings that is hard to explain. In short, my experience was amazing. This is not to say that it wasn’t stressful and even unpleasant at times – but at least for someone like me who loves to discover new cultures and get out of my comfort zone, I can definitely say this is something I will look back on fondly into old age. I think the most important revelation of this journey for me was that if you put your mind to something – even if that thing is regarded as ‘unusual’ by your peers and society – you can make it happen. You see many people who constantly say “I wish I could do that”, but end up going about the same 9–5 corporate life for years on end. I knew I didn’t want to be one of those people. The most difficult part really was making the decision and the planning leading up to going nomad – because being a digital nomad requires an additional layer of planning that being a tourist who is on vacation doesn’t. But it’s so satisfying to watch one of your life dreams unfold that it makes all the hard bits worthwhile.

If I had a choice, would I do it again? Yes, in a heartbeat. But I also know that this lifestyle can only be temporary – both professionally and personally, it’s not tenable to be ‘on the road’ indefinitely. I do plan on repeating this experience at some point – this time around, for less than 6 months at a time, and spending more time in one place. After doing it once, it opens your eyes to alternative ways of traveling/vacationing that you may have never considered before.
